Gypsum Production Line: From Jaw Crusher to Calcite Output

Gypsum is a widely used industrial material, primarily in construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. A complete gypsum production line involves several stages, from raw material extraction to final product output. This article outlines the key processes in a gypsum production line, focusing on crushing, grinding, calcination, and final product refinement.

1. Raw Material Extraction and Primary Crushing
The first step in gypsum production is mining raw gypsum ore from quarries or underground deposits. The extracted material is then transported to a processing plant where it undergoes primary crushing. A jaw crusher is typically used for this stage due to its high efficiency in breaking large gypsum rocks into smaller, manageable pieces (around 20-50 mm). The jaw crusher ensures uniform particle size, which is crucial for downstream processing.

2. Secondary Crushing and Grinding
After primary crushing, the gypsum fragments are further reduced in size using a hammer crusher or impact crusher. This step refines the material into finer particles (below 30 mm) before entering the grinding stage. A ball mill or Raymond mill is then employed to pulverize the gypsum into a fine powder (usually 80-200 mesh). Proper grinding ensures optimal reactivity during calcination.

3. Calcination Process
The powdered gypsum is fed into a rotary kiln or calciner, where it is heated at controlled temperatures (150-180°C for hemihydrate gypsum or 400-500°C for anhydrite). This process removes chemically bound water molecules, converting raw gypsum (CaSO₄·2H₂O) into stucco (CaSO₄·0.5H₂O) or anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO₄). The calcined product determines the final application—whether for plasterboard, cement retarders, or soil conditioners.

4. Cooling and Final Product Classification
After calcination, the hot gypsum powder is cooled using an air cooling system to stabilize its properties. The material may then be classified by particle size using vibrating screens or air classifiers. Depending on requirements, additives like starch or retarders may be blended to enhance performance in specific applications.

5. Packaging and Storage
The final product—either plaster powder or specialized calcite-based compounds—is packed into bags or bulk containers for
